"She is drowned already, sir, with salt water, though I seem to drown her remembrance again with more" - Sebastian

Sebastian is talking about Viola. Saying that she literally drowned in the ocean (salt water) & her memory is being drowned over and over again by his tears (salt water, in tear formation), he is crying because she is gone. Shakespeare is using this as a metaphor for her body, physically being drowned by the ocean and her spirit being by Sebastian's tears. This makes for an interesting situation because now both siblings are unaware that the other is still alive, and on the same island. Also, the second part may be that she continues to drown everyday in his head by him replaying it over and over in his head. She is drowning again and again and now even more so with his tears coming into play as well.

  1. PRobably couldn't have explained it better... I also think he was saying every time he remembers Viola, he cries and "drowns" her rememberence even more.

  2. The content is really good, but parts of it are a bit redundant. I'd revise it a little to remove those parts.

  3. This is a great start for analyzing and understanding this quote. I think you need to work on your wording, you are really repetitive. But I think you did and awesome job of comparing multiple ways the salt water is represented
