Question 1
ReplyDeleteAccording to what we discussed in class today, I don't think Duke Orsino and Olivia actually ever met. In reality Orsino is just in love with the feeling of love, and he thinks that Olivia is the perfect girl to be in love with. Orsino believes this because Olivia has a good status, is beautiful, and is aristocratic.
4. This can be hard to catch at first but the Fool is making fun of Olivia.
ReplyDelete"Fool: Good madonna, why mourn'st thou?
Olivia: Good Fool, for my brother's death.
Fool:I think his soul is in hell madonna.
Olivia: I know his soul is in heaven, Fool.
Fool: The more the fool, madonna, to mourn for your brother's soul, being in heaven. Take away the fool, gentlemen."
(1.5.64-70)
Olivia and the Fool are arguing over which of them is the bigger fool. The Fool is basically asking Olivia why she would bother to worry about her brother's soul when she thinks he is in paradise, this therefore proves her to be the bigger fool.
2. When Maria says "dry" she is referring to Andrew's lack of wit.
6. It problably does hurt her but she can't say anything becuase it would ruin her plans. She has to keep her mind on track and keep her crush to herself.
